Hagi Sencha Set by Hatano Zenzo

Hatano Zenzo (b.1942) was named a Yamaguchi Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property holder for his Hagi wares in 2003. Born in Karatsu, he studied pottery in both Karatsu and Arita before moving to Hagi to apprentice under Hagi great Yoshiga Taibi (1915-1991). He learnt much from his master, and has moved on to create both traditional and modern Hagi wares with both elegance and delicacy -these characteristics gave Zenzo (a beautiful ring to his name) the esteemed designation for Hagi. Here is a refined Hatano sencha set that consists of 6 sencha cups, one tea pot-kyusu, and one bowl/katakuchi-like vessel called a yuzumashi which is used to cool hot water before putting it into the pot. A great collection for those into the Way of Sencha; the cups are 4.6cm tallx5.2, the kyusu is 7cm. tall and 10.5cm wide from spout to back and the yuzumashi is 5.4cm.tallx10.2x7.8; the set comes in a signed box and is in perfect condition, stamped on base and dates to 1995.
