One of Japan's most important ceramic artists is Bizen's Kakurezaki Ryuichi--those of you who know know and if not then please visit our archives or e-yakimono.net. Here is a dark slip coated--thus Black Bizen-- sculpture that was fired in a prime spot in Kakurezaki's kiln and thus the rich and thick covering of goma pine ash. The sides are sliced and blade-edged while the carefully placed holes represent the island chain where Kakurezaki grew up; a great art work for any major private or museum collection; in perfect condition with a signed box, 40.5cm.tall, 16cm.wide and 12cm.deep, signed on base. Kakurezaki's work is in the fabulous MFA, Boston exhibition that moves to NYC in late Sept. Please note our gallery will be on holiday until Aug.21st and thus daily listings are also on hold until then. Robert will be checking in time to time, yet replies may be slow. May we offer 10% on any item in our gallery pages 10-16 until then to say thank you/appreciation--in Japanese that's kansha and is what we express to all.
