Edo Tobacco Pouch with Dragon Netsuke by Tokutaka
A truly striking Edo Period tangerine color leather tabakoire (tobacco pouch) from Nagasaki, embossed with a large dragon and flowers and bearing a silver clasp with the same motifs. The silver backing to the clasp is adorned with wave designs. Attached to the pouch by ten fine silver chains is a kagamibuta netsuke (also called a manju) of a finely rendered dragon by Tokutaka. Purchased in Kyoto in 1962 by of a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. 5 1/2 x 3 5/8 inches, 14 x 9.25 cm. Very Good Condition.
