| Very Fine and Rare Edo Period Sagemono Tobacco Pipe Set from the collection of a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. Kiserutsuzu (pipe holder) of boxwood in the form of Ashinaga, an exquisitely carved elongated standing figure; Kiseru (pipe) of bamboo, steel and copper; Tonkotsu (tobacco box) of boxwood and teak in the form of Daruma with a large movable head and open mouth clasping an Ojime (sliding button) of ivory in the form of a skull. Original Box. Probably the finest pipe set you will see offered for sale. Holder: 8.25 inches, 21 cm; Pipe: 7.75 inches, 19.75 cm long; Tobacco Box: 4.75h x 3.25w inches, 12h x 8.25w cm. Excellent Condition. Compare to the similar piece in The Netsuke Collection of the Peabody Essex Museum, page 146, and we're sure you'll agree that this one is much finer than even that fine piece from one of the foremost collections. | ||
