| This is a bronze okimono of three macaques, the mother carrying her young on her back. Native to Japan and one of the most beloved creatures, the three monkeys are chiseled and incised naturalisticly with great attention to their fur and features. The theme represented here, an almost universal one, "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" appears often in Japanese art. This scuplture is a superb example of its message and technical skill. This fine and amusing bronze okimono is in excellent condition with no damage. Length: 8.5" Meiji Period, Japan | |||||||
