Rare Silver and Enamel Ink box, Date 1819 / 1879

This is a round handsome silver ink box with matching cover. The cover is embellished with a raised silver outline with enamel peony branch arranged in a vase, and four Chinese characters. The four Chinese characters are 'Ji Mao Dong Zhi'. 'Ji Mao' is the Chinese era dating from 1819 to 1879 A.D. "Dong Zhi" literally means winter made, which means this ink box could be either made in the year of 1819 or in 1879 winter. There is a minor chip on the vase. Apart from this, it is in excellent condition.

Diameter: 3 inch (7cm)
