Fine Large Chinese Henan Temmoku Stoneware Jar. Song Dynasty 12/13th.Century Ht. 8 1/8 ins. Diameter 10 ins. This superb and monumental jar is a very sophisticated example of the Temmoku wares of Henan province. The shape is very fine and the glaze breaks from black to a wonderful persimmon colour. There is an example with a less interesting colour in the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath. One loop handle has an old Japanese real gold lacquer repair. There is a vertical crack running down from the lip for about 3 ins. There is also a fine hair crack which runs horizontally from the vertical crack to the loop handle (see detailed photos). There are various minor scratches to the glaze and two minor chips to the outside of the foot rim which almost certainly date from the original firing. The unglazed lower half has some iron stains from burial. The pot is probably the finest Henan Temmoku piece we have ever handled. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
