Very Rare Chinese Neolithic Banpo Amphora with Oxford TL Test
This very rare pottery amphora was made over 6,000 years ago during the Banpo Phase (c 4800 - 4300 BC) of the Yangshao Culture. It is quite "heavily-potted" yet of a particularly slender form with a pointed bottom and a flared mouth. This has been made in three parts, upper & lower body and mouth, with these parts (and the handles) luted together and then covered in a slip of finer clay. As with many of our finer items, we have had this vessel tested by Oxford Authentications, the only testers of ancient pottery accepted by all major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown with our pictures. Also included is a substantial custom-made iron display stand of museum quality. A large example with a height of 38 cm (15 inches) off the stand. The mouth section has come away where it was luted to the body and re-stuck (one of the TL test samples was taken down into the body of the amphora prior to the mouth section being re-stuck). The join can, of course, easily be "disguised" but we prefer to see an "honest" repair so the decision whether or not to do this is up to the eventual buyer. The pointed end also shows signs of repair. Overall, a fine example in very good condition. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
