Very Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Amphora
This rare and interesting pottery jar was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). Although many "anthropomorphic" examples are known (those with the "swirls" to the body possibly representing the female form), examples such as this are extremely rare. Furthermore, this is larger than most with a height of 24.5 cm (9.5 inches). It has the "usual" pattern on the base and on the surface of the handles, often seen on the more common smaller anthropomorphic examples, and it has a nice burnished surface, very smooth to the touch. There seems to be a purposely-etched character near the mouth. Some degree of repair should, of course, be reasonably expected. There is some repair to the mouth edge and a possible repair to the "footrim" although there is no obvious sign of repair when looking inside. Overall, an extremely rare vessel in very good condition. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
