A Fine & Rare Japanese Oribe-yaki Stoneware Tokkuri. Edo Period. 18th. Century
Ht. 7 3/4 ins. (19.7 cms) The Oribe kilns made some of the most distinctive and striking wares in the history of Japanese ceramics. The most recognisable types are, as in this tokkuri (sake bottle), brisk and expressive brush work in iron oxide on a crackled buff ground together with the characteristic green glaze. The brush work on this beautiful example depicts hanging plants (unidentified) with a simply drawn clump of grasses at the bottom. It has been fired on three clay pads. The pot is in excellent condition with no damage and no repairs. It is slightly heavier than one would expect which may be intentional as it would be more difficult to knock over. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
