| Japanese Woodblock Print by Hiroshige 3rd. 1884 Meiji Period 10 1/4 x 7 ins. (26 x 17.8 cms) From the series, "Kokon Tokyo Meisho" (The Famous Places of Tokyo Past and The Present) The design shows a the entrance to a pleasure ground with its flowering cherry trees. This series shows many examples of Westernization such as trams, steam trains etc. but in this case the design shows a scene as it would have been before the Meiji Restoration of 1868 when the wearing of swords was prohibited.
