Fine & Rare Chinese Neolithic Siwa Culture Pottery Amphora
This very rare pottery vessel was made over 3,000 years ago by peoples of the Siwa Culture (c.1350 BC) from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. Although quite "heavily" potted it is well-made with high handles and a saddle-shaped mouth. It has a smooth surface making this jar a real pleasure to handle as well as to look at! The varying surface shades are as a result of uneven temperatures during firing in the Neolithic kiln. On the "shoulder" on both sides are the faint traces of a scroll design. Incised into the surface of one handle is an "X", possibly the mark of the potter. Height 22 cm. There is an old chip to the edge of one handle and a fine hairline crack, possibly a firing or stress fracture, to one side of the body. We have examined this vessel closely and can see no sign of restoration or repair; a lovely example in outstanding condition. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
