Rare Chinese Warring States / Han Dynasty Bronze Censer
Fine & Rare Chinese Warring States / Han Dynasty Bronze Censer

This fine bronze censer was made over some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220) or possibly the earlier Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It has been cast in two pieces, the dish together with the stem bowl, and the reticulated cover, although over the millennia the cover has corroded to the bowl. On the top of the cover is a small loop through which is a ring. The surface has an attractive green and reddish-brown patina. This fine censer is quite capable of being used today to hold burning incense sticks.

Diameter 17 cm. No sign of restoration or repair; fine condition.

Provenance: from the Michael Goedhius Collection/Gallery sold at Bonhams, London.
