Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Siwa Culture c. 1350 BC
Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Siwa Culture c. 1350 BC

This superbly-shaped pottery vessel was made over 3,000 years ago by people of the Siwa Culture (c. 1350 BC). It has been fired to a particularly attractive orange colour and the different shades of the surface colour are as a result of uneven temperatures in the kiln during firing. Two handles stretch from the wide saddle-shaped mouth to the shoulder of the vessel. Traces of ancient root/plant growths still adhere to the inner surface.

Height 13 cm. Close examination shows a small repair to the edge of the vulnerable rim. Overall a lovely example in outstanding condition.
