Chinese Neolithic Qijia Culture Pottery Jar
Chinese Neolithic Qijia Culture Pottery Jar

This fine thin-walled pottery jar was made around 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Qijia Culture in eastern Gansu province, China dating from approx. 2050 - 1700 BC. It is constructed of a fine-grained yellowish clay that has been fired to an attractive orange colour; it is relatively highly-fired, having a distinct ring to it when tapped. The surface is finely burnished and very smooth to the touch.

Height 12.75 cm. Some chips to one side of the vulnerable rim but no restoration or repair; a very good example.
