Large Chinese Han Dynasty Amber Glazed Hu Jar
with Oxford TL Test
This impressive pottery jar of unusually large size was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). Similar examples tend to be coated in a green glaze; those with an amber glaze are particularly rare. It is decorated with various incised bands that surround the body with two moulded taotie mask handles on opposite sides at the waist. As with many of our finer items, we have had this vessel tested by Oxford Authentications, the ONLY testers of ancient pottery accepted by ALL major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and a scan of their Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany this item is shown with our pictures; this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 1500 and 2400 years ago". Height 38.5 cm (15 inches), diameter 34 cm (13.5 inches). Close examination by a trained eye does show some touching up of the glaze at the mouth/neck which suggests there may be some repair in this area, possibly a section broken out and re-stuck, and also some touching up to the glaze on the lower body, presumably where glaze has flaked from the surface. We are quite sure that most sellers would not even notice this, let alone mention it ! Overall, a rare and impressive example in good presentable condition crying out to be displayed and admired in a nicely furnished home ! *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
