Rare Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Cup & Stand
Rare Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Porcelain Cup & Stand (AD 960 - 1279)

This fine and rare porcelain cup and stand were made during the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1127). The delicate pale blue Qingbai (or Yingqing) glaze is finely crackled and is more "glassy" on the cup than on the stand, either due to the cup not being the original for the stand, or because of differing temperatures and conditions in the kiln during firing. Similar stands, with and without cups, have been found in a tomb in Jiangsu province dated to 1071.

Overall height 10.5 cm (4 inches), diameter 12.5 cm (5 inches) The stand, which is fairly "heavily potted" has fine hairline cracks to the rim and base, possibly caused during the cooling process after it was fired (it has more of a ring to it when tapped, as opposed to a dull "thud"). The cup is perfect. Both are free from restoration or repair.
