Fine & Rare Chinese Song Dynasty Porcelain Cup & Stand
Chinese Northern Song Dynasty Porcelain Cup & Stand (AD 960 - 1127)

This fine and rare porcelain cup with stand was made during the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1127). The stand is quite elaborate in comparison to the cup and stands on a high footring. On the stand, the yellowish-green glaze is slightly crackled. Cup stands of this type have been found with and without cups in a tomb in Jiangsu province dated to 1071.

Overall height 10.5 cm (4 inches), diameter 12 cm (4.75 inches) There is insignificant surface wear to the inner surface of the cup and a tiny chip to the upper edge of the stand. The footrim of the cup has a small chip which is very probably a small firing chip caused when the cup was removed from the kiln. Fine overall condition with no repair or restoration.
