Excellent Burmese wooden buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on the base, with meditative facial expression, emphasized by the half-closed eyes which look downward.
The Buddha was lacquered and gilded with inlay of colorful glass pieces on the headband and the borders of the robe. The buddha's robe is elegant with gold leaves and delicately carved as layers of pleat. The folds of the robe flow over each other. The face and the robe are beautifully carved representing the high quality workmanship. Original gold leaves remains in excellent condition showing that this buddha was very well-kept. Age: Burma, Mandalay period, circa 19th Century
