Chinese White Jade Phoenix Cup / Brush Washer, Qing

DESCRIPTION: A Chinese white nephrite (jade) libation cup, carved in the form of a crouching phoenix with wings outstretched and spewing a lingzhi shaped puff of smoke from its nostrils. The body of the phoenix forms the cup / bowl and a twisting chilong (immature dragon) forms the opposing handle. This is an elegant old carving from the 18th/19th C. Qing Dynasty and is in good condition; there is one small frit along the rim, located above the bird’s left shoulder. DIMENSIONS: 5” long (12.8 cm) x 2 ½” high (6.4 cm).
