Chinese Burl Tobacco Box, Qing

DESCRIPTION: Elegant in its simplicity, this Chinese tobacco box is crafted from one piece of beautifully grained burl and then hollowed. The lid fits snugly with round holes that match the holes on the box, which run the interior length of the piece on each side. A leather cord is threaded through the entire track, allowing the box to hang from a belt or sash in the same fashion as the Japanese inro. For those of you who treasure Chinese folk art, this is an exceptional example. This handsome piece has a wonderful aged patina from over a century of use, and dates to the mid 19th C. Such wonderful folk pieces are so difficult to find now, and this one comes with its own custom stand for display purposes. DIMENSIONS: Actual box is 3 ¼” high (8.3 cm) x 3” wide (7.6 cm).
