| DESCRIPTION: A large and beautifully crafted Guanyin (Quanyin) seated on a Buddhist lion (or foo dog). This sculpture is crafted from paktong (literally, “white copper), an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc which originated in China, and has the lustrous sheen of silver but was tarnish proof and considerably harder. The Guanyin sits with her eyes closed in a peaceful, serene expression. She is adorned with a crown, necklace and belt inlaid with turquoise and red stone; a flowing ribbon falls loosely around her shoulders. Resting on a double, inverted lotus repoussee base, the lion has his head turned to one side showing wonderful detail in its mane. This elegant and beautiful figure is finely executed with precise details, and would make a stunning focal point piece. C. 1880 - 1900 and in very good condition with no losses. DIMENSIONS: 27” high (68.5 cm) x 18” wide (45.7 cm) x 10” wide (25.5 cm). | |||||||||||||||
