Fine Scholar’s Huanghuali Brush Pot, 17th/18th C.

DESCRIPTION: A gorgeous huanghuali brush pot in slightly tapering form with beautiful graining and a rich, aged patina. Elegant in its simplicity and carved from a single piece of wood, the luscious golden brown graining of this brush pot exhibits the characteristic huanghuali swirls, knots and “ghost eye” (or gui-lia-er) patterns around its cylindrical form. Dating from the late Ming to early Qing dynasties (1600 – 1750), the condition is very good with a few minor age fissures typical for a brush pot of this age; the hardwood plug is probably not original. This is a fine, genuinely old piece that would enhance any scholar’s art collection. DIMENSIONS: 6” high (15.2 cm) x 6 ˝” diameter (16.5 cm).
