| DESCRIPTION: A beautifully carved Chinese export cinnabar jewelry box with cloisonné latch, dating from the late Qing to early Republic Period (c. 1900 – 1930). The top is skillfully carved with a bird and peony motif on a background of alternating squares, and all four sides are carved in a classic lotus with scrolling tendrils design. The interior is fitted with a compartmentalized top tray of blue silk, now faded from light exposure, while the lower box still retains its bright blue color. Other than the upper interior tray, this outstanding box is in virtually pristine condition with no cracks, chips or losses whatsoever. DIMENSIONS: 12 ¾” wide (32.5 cm) x 8 7/8” deep (22.5 cm) x 3 ¾” high (9.5 cm). | |||||||||||||||
