| Exceptionally rare black and white bowl from a northern kiln, this is only one of these bowls that I have ever seen. It has been fired on the mouthrim with a completely glazed footrim. The white inner glaze has a green tinge (difficult to capture with camera) with some cracalature where it pools in the center. The outer glaze is almost completely black except for on the edge the footrim. The clay is a light gray color and appears to have been dipped in a white slip in the center. I have had two professional restorations done on this piece to repair a shallow chip on the mouth and footrim. For all practical purposes these are invisible and may be detected by scratching the surface with a stainless steel sharp blade. The thin footrim and firing technique incline me to place this piece as Northern Song emulating a Ding ware. D: 14.6cm/5.8in and H: 5.5cm/2.1in. | ||||||||||||
