Yuan pottery flask

Very rare and unique round spirits or medicine pottery flask. This round shaped traveling flask design has been around in ceramic form since the Western Zhou Dynasty, although it gives off an archaic impression, it is from the Yuan Dynasty at the latest, as the impressed chrysanthemum medallion has a Song aesthetic and the dark gray almost black pottery has the functionality of a nomadic people like the Mongols. All the other ceramic examples I have seen of this form have been glazed while quite a few black pottery utilitarian ceramics have surfaced over the past decade, often difficult to distinguish from much earlier Neolithic Warring States periods that date to the Yuan. Excellent condition, no damage to body or lugs which would have been secured by rope or leather hide strips and clever “double barreled” spout, designed to make pouring easier. H: 12cm/4.8cm, and W: 10cm/4in x 5cm/1.9in.
