| Exceptionally fine and rare wedding blanket panel fragment from the Miao, Songtao subgroup, of Northeast Guizhou, China. Dating from the mid to late 19th century, this piece is composed of a silk and wool supplementary weft diamond pattern on a cotton foundation. The colors are still vivid and have an amazing variety of shades and tones, and for the exception of the orange yarn seem to be for the most part natural dyes. Because of the wool content it is quite thick and heavy for a textile from this region. This piece represents about half of a single panel of what would have been three paneled blanket and is in excellent condition; L: 68cm/26.8in and W: 33cm/13in. | |||||||||
