Tang agate bead necklace

Outstanding ensemble of Tang period agate, circa 7th CE – 10th CE, (and one crystal) strand of beads, professionally knotted into a necklace. All these came from Yunnan province and represent a non Han tradition and taste, more in keeping with Tibet or Southeast Asia. Please bear in mind that this province did not actually become part of China until it was “annexed” by the Yuan Mongolian Empire around the 13th century and by default was incorperated into the Ming. Yunnan was home to several different civilizations prior to this. Noted in enlargements are a couple of references dating these types of beads to Tang, however, there are probably a few either that predate or post date this period, but all guaranteed to be “real old”, at least several centuries. There are a total of 28 beads L: 53cm/21in, and may be fastened by looping the end of side over the last bead of the other.
