| Exceptionally fine and rare Tang or Sui Dynasty saucer on a short stemmed base. This piece is expertly potted with crisp angles and an unusual rolled lip on footrim which has been luted to the body; it is made from sandy textured high fired white clay with a clear glaze that has a greenish tint. There is one chip on the footrim as well as some minor frits on one edge, all noted in enlargements. This piece is from an old collection and has been in storage for 20 years, the reason I note this is because this kind of glaze frequently flakes off after a year or so of excavation, I have had this piece professionally cleaned to remove some staining in the crackles and it is completely stable. D: 11.8cm/4.7in and H: 6cm/2.3in. | |||||||||||
