| The size of Wooden Box : 5 3/4" L x 4 1/2" W x 2 1/8" H. Very unusual Japanese Wooden Carved Box. The box is very fine carving design of Hasu(lotus) design on five sides which is in Rinpa school style. It is fasinating workmenship. The top cover has the turtle design right next the lotus stem which made into handle. There is Katatsumuri(snail) design at the one end of box. The condition of box excellent other than little bit cover slightly warped due to the age, but it fit fine with bottom part. A couple of wear spot including one of snail horn end. No crack and no split, and no hairline. The box sit well. The cover and bottom box are made by one solid wood no joint. Dating from Late Edo to Meiji, mid to later 19th century. I believe the material is Sugi(Japanese cypress). | ||||||||||||||
