Rare Silver Ariticulated Lobster by (Myochin) Hiroyoshi

The size of Lobster: 12 1/2" Long x 5 1/2" Wide, 2" High when crawled, 6 1/4" body length without antenna. This is very fine works of Japanese articulated lobster(Ise-Ebi) made by Jungin(pur silver). It is made by Hiroyoshi who was one of Masuda Myochin generation. The condition of lobster excellent, no missing part, and all lobster parts are functionable. Little age turnished. It is marked "Hiroyoshi" back of lobster in Kanji, Hiro-Yoshi and also marking of Jungin(pure silver) below Hiroyoshi marking as photo showing.

"Myochin" is family name of Kajiya which started forging work for armors on Heian era. Myochin family immigrated to Himeji by request from Sakai-Utanokami-Tadakiyo during Edo period. Myochin family served feudal lord Sakai in Himeji. The family name" Myo-chin" has origin in words of speech by emperor Konoe(1141-1154) who was presented armors from them. Emperor Konoe who was impressed by its cool sound and said ; "Sonorous in sound, light is bright (Myo) like a sun, very unique rare (chin) goods so they was called as Myo-chin(Bright and Rare in Japanese)..." There is also story that Sen-Rikyu(master of tea ceremony) asked Myochin to make his Hibashi which also made Myochi famous.

Myochin Hiroyoshi is one of Myochin family generation, however I can not tell exact which generation since no record. One thing is sure that this silver lobster was made during Meiji Period(1868-1912) after Edo government turned over to Meiji government because they no longer needed for Yoroi and ornaments in Meiji period. There is record of name, 11 th Masuda Myochin(Yoshihiro), exact Kanji writing as Hiroyoshi but just reversal Kanji, Yoshi-Hiro.
