Fine Japanese Makie, Lacquer Suzuribako

The size of Suzuribako: 8 1/2" Long x 5 1/8" Wide x 1 1/2" High. Beautiful Japanese Makie, Lacquer Suzuribako. Suzuribako is made with Makie finish called, "Tamenuri" which has reddish lacquer finish in middle urushi(lacquer) finish, then top coating Urushi with translucent finish which give half translucent effect. It is very lovely finish as well as fine shape Suzuribako. Inside and bottom of suzuribako has Roiro(black) urushi finish. Inside has inkstone as well as Metal Suiteki which is made by brass with silver plating. The design oon top cover is Kikyo(Chinese bell flower). The flower is done with fine silver finish. Stem with the gold finish. Leaves done with silver and gold finish. Very lovely desgin. The condition of Suzuribako is excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. Inkstone staying in the spot. Water dropper is removable. It came with tomobako. Teh cover fit well and Suzuribako sit wellThere are two kind seal on the left side bottom which looks like artist seal. First one looks like Tanaka and first name. Second tone first three letters is city name Kurashiki where Okawayama in Japan. Dating from late Meiji to early Taisho period, 1900-1920.
