Pretty Japanese Makie Roiro Box Magnolia Dsn

The size of Lacquer Box 8 3/4" Wide x 11 5/8" Long x 2 1/4" High. (1/8" smaller on bottom box). It is beautiful Japanese Anizu Nuri(lacquer) Fumibako(stationery box). It has wooden body made with Glossy roiro(black) lacquer finish. The design on the top has Kobushi No Hana(Magnolia flower design) with gold and silver works. The magnolia flower done in darker gold and lighter gold as well as silver finish on light part bud. Inside of box has fine cloth lining. The bottom of box has rigid lacquer finish. the condition of box is perfect and never been used. No chip, no crack and no hairline as well as no warping. It came with storing box made of heavy duty per box. The lacquer box was made by famous Aizu Lacquer artist, fukunishi Sobei 3rd. Dating from 1970's. Please note one of photo showing the wrinkle on photo which is from photo tent and not on lacquer box. Marking on the cover marked Yuhou which is pen name of Soubei.

History of Aizu Lacquer
When the lacuqer ware work established in Aizu area(Fukushima prefecture, north of Tokyo) was during toyotomi Hideyoshi, 1590's. The lord Gamou was encouraged by Hideyoshi for their local industry development. They invited the lacuqer artist from Hino(Shiga area). Then during Edo era, Hoshina Makiyuki developed Aizu lacquer and they exported many pieces to china, Holland. It was slowed down during end of Edo, but it has been re-established during middle Meiji period.
