The size of each Woodblock print: 23cm x 34cm. Artist: Yoshu Chikanobu (1838-1912) The condition of Hanga: Very good except noting there is a couple of spots at bottom corner has slightly stain as the close up photos showing. Chikanobu was the student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi at first. Later he was the student of Toyohara Kunichika. Chikanobu was High ranking officer in Shogun government. He was able to access to the bakside of palace at Shogun's wife resident. He has created many scene from there too. Chikanobu is famous for Bijin-Ga.(lady figures) This is wonderful Triptych Japanese Moku-Hanga(woodblock print) by Yoshu Chikanobu(1838-1912). It is printed on Meiji 21(1888), Feb.16th, published on Feb. 18th by Unokichi, Takegawa, 2-chome, 12 Banchi, Nihonbashi. Carver Gin. It is signed by Yoshu Chikanobu on the woodblock as last photo showing. It is very fine impression and crisp colors. Very detail works. The white Kimono part also showing ebossed work pattern which photo could not shown. The subject of threee Kabuki Actors. From right, Ichikawa Gonjuro, played as "Yoshitsume (Minamoto)" who was warrior and brother of Shogun Yoritomo Minamoto. Center piece is Nakamura Fukunosuke played as "Shizuka" lover of Yoshitusme. Third one left is Ichikawa Danjuro, I can not figure out who played for. All three woodblock prints are loose and not attached, in three pieces. One of very best impression and composition work ever seen. |
