An Antique Zitan Melon Shaped Ink Paste box - mid-Qing
This is a zitan ink-paste box in the shape of a large melon or gourd lying on the ground. The gourd is surrounded with its leaves and branches and a bee sits on top of the gourd. The carving is quite intricate and extremely well detailed. The box is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. It measures 5 ½” long by 3 ¼” wide by 2 ¼” high. We date it to the early to mid Qing dynasty, circa 1700s-1820s.
