A Modern Japanese Studio Vase, Celadon

This is a handsome modern Japanese globular shaped bud vase with a tiny top. It is glazed in a soft celadon glaze in the finest tradition of Japanese simplicity. The vase measures 4 ½” high by 5” diameter at the waist and the flared top is ¾” in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. We date it to the second half of the last century, circa 1950-1975. There is a two character mark in cobalt blue on the base. I have had the mark read by two different people and got two different translations – the first is "Kaito" – the other is “Hai Tung “– Sea East. Hopefully someone out there will be able to let us know which is correct. Either way, it is a lovely example of modern Japanese ceramic art.
