| An early pair of matched Japanese Imari Mokuzuke – small dishes for the tea ceremony. The centers of each are decorated with a group of stylized pine trees surrounded by clouds – the tips of the pines touched with gold. Two of the borders have red flowers – the two other borders have pines with the needles done in gold. Interestingly, the borders are reversed on the two plates with the red flowers on top and bottom on one dish – and just the reverse on the other dish. The bases have karakusa vine decorations in the corners. In the center of the footed base is a four character mark that translates to Seika Nensei, (made in the year of Chenghua year – 1447-1487) – a common marking for Imari. It is an honorific apocryphal mark in honor of the early Chinese ceramicists. The dishes are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks – light stacking wear as would be expected. | ||||||||||||||
