A Western Han Dynasty Hu Jar – 209 B.C. –24 A.D.

A fine small but elegant earthenware jar in the Hu form – the grayware jar vigorously hand painted in flowing patterns with polychrome pigments of white and darker grey pigments in a design of an archaic dragon encircling the lower body of the jar. We believe this piece to date from the Western Han Dynasty, 206 B.C.-24 A.D. Excellent condition with light soil deposits from long burial. Measures 4 1/2” high and is 2” diameter at the top opening – 3 5/8” diameter at the widest part of the lower body and the raised foot is 1 ¾” diameter.
