A Superb Indian Miniature Painting

From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a superb contemporary Indian miniature painting, executed in a colorful but subdued palette of red, green, purple, and blue, with a lavish use of gilt highlights and detailing.

Ordinarily we prefer only the antique miniatures, but we thought this one was so well-done that we made an exception. Often painted with single-haired sable brushes or their equivalent, some of the details here are so fine they are difficult to appreciate without a jeweler's loop. This includes among other things, the individual strands of hair, the individual pearls on the necklaces, and the gilt and black details of the gentleman's turban. We have already had this piece smartly framed, but we do apologize for some of the photos, as we had constant difficulty with the glare from the glass.

Size and Condition: Framed: 14.5 inches tall, 11 inches wide. Unframed image size: 11.5 inches tall, 8 inches wide. Perfect condition.
