A perfect Hagi sencha set by Saka KoraizaemonX(1809-1958). The petite wares are full of grace, and are evidence of being made by a master craftsman. In the set are 6 sencha cups, one tea pot-kyusu, and one bowl/katakuchi-like vessel called a "yuzamashi" which is used to cool hot water before putting it into the pot. A fine and again boldly glazed henko-jar by Mashiko great Murata Gen(1904-1988); this one is very similar in form to most of Murata's jars, yet the glazing scheme is quite unusual with a nuka base, iron brush sweeps and an iron glaze lip and flowing patches, overall a great example of a Murata jar. DESCRIPTION: A very fine and rare pair of Kangxi Mark and Period (1662 - 1722) Aster Dishes, ex Christie's (see last photo for actual Christie's catalog listing), well-executed in a deep Mohammedan blue, with three aster blooms painted amidst a reserve of scrolling tendrils on shallow petal-lobed bodies. DESCRIPTION: A very fine Yongzheng Mark and Period (1723 -1735) dragon dish, well painted in underglaze blue with a lively four-clawed dragon clutching the flaming pearl of wisdom. The dragon is set amidst an interior of swirling clouds with the dragon's body wrapping around the dish and extending onto the reverse. A set of five blue and white porcelain bowls by Miyagawa Kozan I (Makuzu) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Patterns alternated with white bansds decorated with dials depicting scholarly scenes. Outside eggplants contain the three friends of winter, plum, pine and bamboo. The bowls are a fine example of his sometsuke tableware in a box signed by Kozan I. Bronze bulbous incense burner with square opening at the top, standing on three short feet. On two sides there is the head of a shishi. Around the belly of the piece there is a strip in cast in relief of highly stylized animals standing nose-to-nose with each other, surrounded by stylized symbols of longevity.
