Details: An attractive and pure example of an early Ayutthaya 15th century seated Buddha in the U-Thong type ‘C’ style. The Buddha is seated in Maravijaya, his right hand hanging heavily over his knee reaching to touch the ground with long, elegant, elongated fingers, while the left hand remains in a meditative position in his lap palm up. Details: A nice example of a late 18th to 19th century gilt Burmese reliquary possible Arakanese in the form of a Chedi or Stupa. Made in two parts of a hollow square base to hold relics and a hollow dome with four attractive Khmerized Gopuras each topped with a Chofa and the well proportioned dome of the Stupa is crowned with an elegant lotus bud. Details: A very fine miniature example of an early Javanese image of Vairocana the foremost of the five transcendent Dhyani Buddhas and the most revered of the cosmic Buddhas in early Javanese Buddhist society. Vairocana is seated in Vajrasana on the upper part of a lotus base with both hands in the wisdom fist Bodhyagrimudra. Details: A rare and dynamic example of a 13th century “Lopburi” Standing Buddha, probably from the Buriram area. Buddha is standing with strength in a symmetrical posture which represents a survival of the Dvaravati type, but with the later Khmer innovation of both the hands in the gesture of Abhayamudra as opposed the popular Dvaravati gesture of both hands in Vitarkamudra. Thai gilt bronze Buddha, Ratanakosin period, 18th/19th century, the Buddha depicted in "Calming The Ocean" mudra. Both hands repaired at wrist, spire missing but very fine casting.
Measurements: H 15"; teak wood base H 3 1/2".
Provenance: The piece is said to have been owned by a member of the early Chakri dynasty in the late 18th century.
