From an estate of Brigadier General U.S Army Commander LLoyd Milton Brett. This is a Malay Kris that was captured by General Brett's forces in battles against the Moros on Mindanao during the Philippine Insurrection in April 1900. The BOLO is the head hunter type of heavy single-edges knife that LAPU-LAPU used to decapitate MAGELLAN on 27 April 1521.

Very fine niello inlay silver box with a depiction of the Royal Barge on the Chao Phraya River floating past Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn) flanked by apsaras on the lid and burlwood interior. The front reads “To Admiral Sir David Luce with best wishes from Admiral (signed) Chammarnand Layndvla, Bangkok, 5, January 1962”. This hand hammered bronze gong from Burma emits a mid-range mellow tone when struck at the center of its starburst pattern with a padded mallet.
