Zoomorphic quartz elephant bead from the ancient Buddhist Pyu city state of Halin, Shwe Bo, Burma 300 CE -900 CE. Reference and photographed in Early Landscapes of Myanmar: Elizabeth Moore. Provenance - Bucklee Bell bead expert/author and former contributor to the Peter Francis Bead Research Project. Scale noted in last enlargement is in centimeters.

Exceptionally large and finely preserved (pity its broken- viewable in enlargements) 9 band etched carnelian bead from the Pyu culture circa 300 CE to 700 CE. Describing this as a “military” bead is fairly apocryphal but seems to be the widely accepted term in bead collecting circles, and are said to indicate some sort of rank. A naturally white banded and tapered caramel-brown agate bead called "Dong Song" from a culture crossing the Cambodian-Vietnamese border, but most likely originally made in India or Central Asia, BC 700 to 200 AD and traded across the Continent. Very fine etched opalized fern wood bead from the Pyu culture, in what is now Burma who were loose group of Buddhist city states connected by the Irrawady River, circa 300 CE to 700 CE. This is a highly prized heirloom item with the Chin people of Burma and believed to have protective powers. Excellent condition with no chips or cracks, the hole has been drilled from opposite sides until they met in the middle, which is typical of ancient bead making techniques.
