This blue & white porcelain dish was made over 500 years ago toward the end of the 15th century and was recovered from the Hoi An wreck. The base has been coated in thin brown wash, often seen on Vietnamese ceramics of this period.
This rare stoneware bowl was made during the 14th Century. A white slip has been applied to the stoneware body and the underglaze design painted on using a low-grade cobalt resulting in bluish-brown colour. The transparent glaze has a greenish tint to it. Lovely blue and white Annamese small jar late 15th CE from the Hoi An shipwreck I originally had about 20 piece, 10 years ago which I had sold as a lot but kept this one for myself, because I liked the naturalistic style of how the duck in the pattern was portrayed hiding its beak under its wing. Perfect condition! H: 4cm/1.5in.
