Exquisite Lotus Form Celadon Saucer with the most desirable sea-green color found only in 12th Century Korean celadon. This is the color that inspired the Chinese to refer to Korean celadon as "first under Heaven". The Korean love of forms from nature is evident here in the graceful foliate shape of this saucer. Koryo dynasty celadon bowl. The cavetto with inlaid white slip decoration including ornamental band inside the rim and four strawberry sprays surrounding centered chrysanthemum flowerhead within double ring. The exterior with white and black slip inlaid decoration of two graduated bands of chrysanthemum roundels within double rings. 12th Century Celadon Foliate Bowl. A rare form that is molded into a lotus blossom with a foliate rim and deeply carved lotus interior with a beautifully pooled glaze in the recesses of the carving. The lotus is the symbol of rebirth and purity, because the lotus blossom rises above the muck of the pond to show its face to the Sun. 4w x 1h inches, 10w x 2.5h cm.
