A Very Rare Large Japanese Woodblock Print of London Street Scene by Kojo Kokan (1891-1988) 1930.
17 7/8 x 14 1/2 ins. (45.4 x 36.8 cms) The only reference we can find to this print is the example in the British Museum which is illustrated on the BM website and which was exhibited 2007 Oct 10 - 2008 Feb 17, in the BM Japanese Galleries. This is one of the famous prints by the shin-hanga painter Kawase Hasui titled “Zentsu-Ji Temple”. It portrays a magnificent temple at To-Ji, Japan for the followers of the branch of Buddhism called Shingon-shū. The print shows visitors with umbrellas going through the main gate to the temple as it is raining . In the misty background the pagoda of the temple can be seen.

This is a well known Japanese woodblock print by the artist Artist name, " Ichijusai Yoshikazu"(active ca 1850-1870). It depicts a wooden Torii gate off shore in Lake Biwa at the Itsukushima Shrine . The print is framed – it measures 21 ˝” by 15 ˝” in the frame – the image size is 14” by 9 ˝” – standard oban size. It has not been examined out of the frame.
