Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock print depicting the Bodhisattva of Compassion titled “Kwannon” by Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965). Kwannon is typically romanized as Kannon. The artist's red seal is at the lower right portion of the image amd the black circular seal is on the back. Circa 1950s. Printed posthumously. Original woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950), titled " A Gate at the Stupa of Sanchi", 1932, from the artist's India and Southeast Asia Series. This print has a brush signature in Japanese, as well as the requisite Jizuri seal, signifying that this is a lifetime impression. The design is illustrated at plate 169 of "The Complete Woodblock Prints of Yoshida Hiroshi.
