Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) titled “Mimasu” (Small) depicting the actor Ichikawa Danjuro in the role of a samurai warrior by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). “Mimasu” is the name of the “mon” (crest) for the Ichikawa family. It consists of three square rice measures (called “masu”) nested inside one another. In this image, a lunging Danjuro with his oversized sword is placed against a stylized mimasu crest.
