Japan Mid Edo era (1800-1850) This stunning chirimen crepe-silk uchikake wedding garment was created during the Edo era, very likely for a young samurai woman. This garment features twenty-five turtles created with silver and gold couching. Some of the turtle shells are of gold, while others are of a gold/silver mixture. Japan Early to mid Meiji era (1868-1900) Kakeshita is a special type of bridal furisode that is worn under a shiromuku-uchikake or iro-uchikake. The material is "kinsha" silk (fine crepe silk). The back of this undergarment features three large, bold mon (family crest) accomplished in a fine-rendered couching embroidery technique. Unique Japanese wedding kimono (Uchikake), embroidered in light blue silk. This gown is very tasteful. It was not made in a large Uchikake kimono maker but sewn on a professional level. The colors of fabric and the embroideries are slightly different on different parts of the gown. This was mainly caused by the light and direction of the fabric.
