A very rare Japanese wood lacquered natsume tea caddy of the finest quality, depicting a traditional Japanese Noh theater mask. The details are finely painted with the use of gold. When held to the light you can detect an ever so slight wood grain just beneath the lacquer. The caddy dates to the 1920's and is in excellent condition measuring about 2.75 inches tall.

An octagonal miniature Japanese bronze, bell metal mirror. Relief decoration of phoenix, kirin, pheasants and other birds among cloud wisps and floral decoration. The mirror forms one of the three Imperial regalia of Japan (the other two being the sword and magatama bead.) Description: An old Japanese small iron teapot with a flower and branch design around the body; the handle is attached by two loops in the side so it remains upright. The teapot has a dark brown/black patina. On the side is a seven-kanji maker mark. The top has a flower bulb knob and a small steam release hole. It measures 3” H (5-1/4” H to handle) x 3-1/2” Diameter; and weighs 1 lb. The teapot is in good condition. Acquired prior to 1980, but specific age is unknown.

This large elegant Japanese flower basket (“hanakago” or “hanaire”) has been very finely plaited and woven with varied thin strips of split bamboo. Dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930), the bottom is marked with a three-character signature of noted artisan “Shokushosai." Suzuki Shokushosai was an active basket maker in Tokyo during the first three decades of the 20th century.
