Japanese Kutani porcelain tea caddy with three parts: top, inner lid and body. The main body of the tea caddy is slightly ribbed beneath the upper trim and above the gilt brown stylized rock trim around the bottom. The bright pink ground on the top and the upper body is decorated with finely painted blue and yellow birds amid brightly colored floral designs. Description: An old Japanese small iron teapot with a flower and branch design around the body; the handle is attached by two loops in the side so it remains upright. The teapot has a dark brown/black patina. On the side is a seven-kanji maker mark. The top has a flower bulb knob and a small steam release hole. It measures 3” H (5-1/4” H to handle) x 3-1/2” Diameter; and weighs 1 lb. The teapot is in good condition. Acquired prior to 1980, but specific age is unknown.

This large elegant Japanese flower basket (“hanakago” or “hanaire”) has been very finely plaited and woven with varied thin strips of split bamboo. Dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900-1930), the bottom is marked with a three-character signature of noted artisan “Shokushosai." Suzuki Shokushosai was an active basket maker in Tokyo during the first three decades of the 20th century.
